Helping REALTORS to Speak With One Voice

Communicate the REALTOR Story

Let’s face it. What REALTORS do for a living, and the many ways you protect a real estate consumer's marketplace to conduct business, is impressive. But, having a good story to tell just isn’t enough.

Much of how REALTORS are viewed by the public is based on society’s brief glimpses into your profession as presented by the media. Often, the media portrays REALTORS in a negative light. When the media approaches REALTORS for an interview or information, you need to be well equipped to answer important questions in a way that best reflects the REALTORS’ interests and the consumer’s welfare. The same also applies when dealing with public officials.

Ask Yourself:

  1. Can your leaders explain in a clear and concise manner the important role of the REALTOR in the real estate transaction?
  2. Is your Association’s vision and key messages being communicated clearly to key internal and external audiences?
  3. Are your speeches and meetings delivered in a manner that inspire others to get involved?

Simply put, we specialize in working with REALTORS. We’ve trained several hundred REALTOR association leaders—on the national, state and local levels. Our workshop (see below) incorporates both a working knowledge of communications practices and the real estate industry.

A critically needed skill, REALTOR leaders learn to:
  • Improve their written and oral communications skills
  • Formulate messages or "talking points" for key internal and external audiences
  • Appreciate the media and keep control of the media interview.

Personalized, one-on-one videotaping sessions provide individualized training. Attendees engage in mock, on-camera interview sessions. They learn to interact with broadcast and print media, to answer questions effectively and to convey important messages about the real estate profession and the REALTOR association (these sessions also help in dealing with public officials and internal committees and meetings).

Workbooks, handouts and a DVD are always provided.

"Strategies for Successful Communicators"

BAK's Two-Part Workshop (see agenda below)

The first half of the workshop focuses on public speaking tools and techniques for effectively communicating messages. The focus is on speech delivery and improving presentation skills.

The second half of the workshop details ‘Media Relations 101.’ The focus is on responding in a proactive manner to media “real life” questions REALTORS are likely to encounter in an interview. We show videotape examples and discuss related stories that help attendees grasp what to do, and not do, to make their points convincingly during the interview.
